The lack of enough clearance slows the valves down. And when the valves are kept closed for a longer time, the heat will obviously build up. This additional amount of time that the valves take then ends up overheating the engine.

Deposits can cause the rings to stick, reducing engine compression and horsepower.

@Johnny: You could always lock it by pressing the lock from inside the vehicle before you close the door, then just unlock it with the remote.
Destroying an engine with Bleach is common knowledge about damaging a car engine. With Bleach, you can ruin a car engine undetected.
